The consultation is now closed

The Government’s public consultation on Local Government Reorganisation is now closed. We want to take this opportunity to thank everyone who took the time to share their views and opinions. This is the biggest change the county has seen in over 50 years and it’s important that the voices of Suffolk’s residents are heard.

While we don’t have a confirmed timeline for the Government’s decision, we will be providing further updates through the One Suffolk channels as soon as we receive them.

What is One Suffolk?

One Suffolk is Suffolk County Council’s response to the call from Government to reorganise local councils and bring everything under one council for the whole county. That means one point of contact, one set of priorities, and one place to go when you need information.

This isn’t about cutting corners. It’s about doing more with what we have. One Suffolk will deliver:

    • Financial resilience, low council tax.
    • £40m new deal for market towns.
    • Communities empowered to lead.
    • A proactive highways service.
    • Unified, consistent and locally shaped planning.
    • A modern, tech-driven, innovative council.
    • A resilient and growing economy.
    • Strong voice for Suffolk and its future.

Councillor Richard Rout, Suffolk County Council’s cabinet member for devolution and local government reform, explains everything you need to understand about the One Suffolk proposal.
